INDEPEN-DANCE offers training opportunities for carers, social work staff and community dancers throughout the year.

We offer work experience and student placements and are currently running a mentoring scheme for people interested in using dance with people with disabilities.

Training workshops available for 2008

We have four training events planned for throughout 08-09 programme of events as follows.

1. Jenny Elliot - Orbit Dance - Belfast - Dates to be confirmed

2. Onil Vizcaino - Asi Somos Dance Company - Spain 23rd - 26th July

3. Wolfgang Stange - Amici Dance Company - London - Dates to be confirmed

4. Christopher Benstead & David Trouton - Music for Dance - Dates to be confirmed

Each course leader has been chosen with utmost precision and all are the best in the field of dance and disability in Britain. The above will provide the participants with opportunities to improve and gain more enriched experiences in the area of work. The courses will be of significant benefit to the care workers, social workers, students, community dancers as well as tutors for INDEPEN-DANCE.

Previous training

Last year we held four training events throughout the four terms.

Spring term - A one day course with Harriet Buchan, "Opening Your Voice - Start the Process Now!!"

Summer Term - A two day course with Wolfgang Stange

Autumn Term - A two day course with Dina 13 from Germany

Winter Term - A two day course with Christopher Benstead.

In previous years we have had three exciting training events by dance artists renowned in the area of dance and disability:

- 10th, 11th & 12th May - RICHARD COATEN - He looked at the area of dance for under 5's and dance and disability

- 5th & 6th June - SIMON WHITEHEAD - he used Pollock County park and house as inspiration for his site specific dance workshops.

-  28th & 30th - WOLFGANG STANGE - he followed his success in the area of dance and disability and improvisation, he gave everyone inspiration in the field of dance.

We are glad to have the opportunity to invite all of these artists to work with our company again.

All three of the artists will have one workshop open to the community.
